Another day dawns, and with it comes more news on Wolves attacker Jhon Arias from Brazil. This time, a wave of fresh reports from different outlets bring developments that genuinely reshape the story.
Wolves remain central to what is now a far more delicate situation. Because while recent reports from Brazilian journalist Felipe Lemos suggested Palmeiras is lining up a bid worth around €18m guaranteed plus €5m in bonuses, a new update from Globo Esporte changes the picture and reintroduces a key variable into the saga.
Fluminense say Wolves clause is still alive
Speaking at the club’s training centre, Fluminense president Mattheus Montenegro confirmed that the Rio side plan to exercise their priority clause if Arias returns to Brazilian football.
Crucially, he also stated that Fluminense have not been notified by Wolves about any formal offers so far. “With regard to Arias, he is a player who left here not long ago. It is a conversation that happens frequently,” he said. “We became aware of interest from Palmeiras and other clubs. Since always, there is interest from clubs across Brazil. He is a spectacular player.
“But in Arias’ contract, we do have a priority clause. We need to be notified. Our plan is to exercise that priority”, he revealed. “We do not know the value yet, but we have a plan in place to exercise it. I cannot guarantee that we will exercise it, because we do not know the value, but we are planning for it.”
The statement directly impacts the broader narrative. If Fluminense have not been formally notified, it strongly suggests that Palmeiras’ proposal has not yet been officially submitted to Wolves, despite advanced discussions and positioning behind the scenes.
Palmeiras interest remains, but timing matters
That does not remove Palmeiras from the picture. Brazilian reports continue to describe Jhon Arias as a priority target for them, and club figures have openly acknowledged their admiration for the player.
Club president Leila Pereira made it clear when speaking to Itatiaia, but she refused to raise expectations. “I would very much like him to come to Palmeiras, but I hate creating expectations among our supporters”, she said. “But yes, Palmeiras are in the market to strengthen the squad.”
She then added: “When things are more concrete, I will speak to the press. We have targeted signings. We need to be assertive. That’s why there is no rush, and we will do what is best.”
Wolves still control the trigger

From Wolves’ perspective, the mechanism remains clear. Any formal proposal would require notification to Fluminense, activating the clause and forcing the Rio club to decide whether to match the offer. Until that step happens, the clause stays dormant but very much alive.
That reality adds tension to what had looked like a straightforward run for Palmeiras. The path is still open, but it is no longer uncontested. Fluminense have now placed themselves firmly back into the story, publicly and deliberately.
For Wolves, this represents another twist in a saga that keeps evolving. Talks, interest and planning continue, but the next decisive move – the formal offer – now carries consequences that go beyond a simple negotiation.
