Borussia Dortmund were optimistic about signing Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham before Eintracht Frankfurt entered the race.

On May 17th, we covered claims from Germany which stated the player would make a decision on his future after the Championship playoff final, which Sunderland won and secured promotion to the Premier League.

The Sunderland star visited Eintracht Frankfurt’s facilities on Monday and was accompanied by his parents on the trip to Germany.

Sky Deutschland now state BVB are fearful of missing out on the 19-year-old to their league rivals.

Florian Plettenberg claims Eintracht Frankfurt tried to convince him with a complete package. They also gave him the tour of Frankfurt, met with the club’s top leaders.

Limited competition in his position and Champions League football are also factors.

A source close to Eintracht Frankfurt told Plettenberg: “We have very good chances.”

His colleague at Sky, Patrick Berger, claims there are “many indications” Eintracht Frankfurt will win the race to sign the Sunderland player. Another Sky reported Jesco von Eichmann states Bellingham will make decision on his future this week.

Earlier claims had stated the Black Cats value the player at €20-25m. Due to the growing competition, and RB Leipzig have also tried, Bellingham’s price has increased. Sunderland’s promotion could also be another factor.

Sky now state €30m is needed to take Bellingham away from Sunderland and it’s feasible for both BVB and Eintracht Frankfurt. Don’t be surprised if there’s even bonuses taking it above that, such is the German tussle for his signature.
