Rangers completed the signing of Tochi Chukwuani on Sunday. He arrived at Ibrox from Sturm Graz and became Danny Röhl’s first signing of this winter market.
The Scottish Premiership side mean business as they get set to fight for the title, and multiple more additions are expected at Ibrox.
The Dane’s move to Rangers has left his former club, Lyngby Boldklub, delighted. Last week, Tipsbladet reported on a 10-20% sell-on clause which they agreed with the Austrian club. Lyngby sold the player in 2024, and are now set to receive a further financial bonus.
Monday’s edition of Kleine Zeitung explains his sale to Rangers has also pleased Sturm Graz.
According to the newspaper, the 21-year-old’s move to Ibrox has seen Sturm Graz collect €5m from Röhl’s side.
The Austrian Bundesliga club signed the defensive midfielder from Lyngby in 2024. He was a regular for them, featuring 62 times in the last 18 months.
Although his preferred position is in the middle of the pitch, most of his appearances were on the left side of midfield. Chukwuani played the full 90 minutes in Sturm Graz’s 2-1 Europa League win over Rangers last October. This was under Röhl’s predecessor, Russell Martin.
Transfer to Rangers brings pride in Austria
Sturm Graz managing director Michael Paren has explained that despite losing an important player there’s a feeling of pride. The Austrian club want to develop talents and sell for a profit and this is an example of them succeeding at that.
“Tochi is another example of the development that young players can undergo at Sturm. We are proud of our shared and successful journey with him,” he said.
The Austrian club will bring in a replacement for the new Rangers signing in this window. There’s hope that can happen quickly.
For the Scottish Premiership club, they now need to help Tochi Chukwuani adapt to his new surroundings, so the youngster can continue his development.
