German side Nuremberg are planning to take Southampton to court over a loss of €1m thanks to Spy Gate.
BILD report on the matter today, and how the German side intend to chase a lost €1m form the deal for Casper Jander.
Jander wants to leave
Sport Witness covered a report earlier this week explained that Casper Jander wants to leave Southampton after their failure to secure promotion to the Premier League.
He’s now eyeing an exit, while everyone else counts the cost of Spy Gate. One of those affected is his former club Nuremberg.
The report explained that they were due €1m if Southampton secured promotion to the Premier League. Furthermore, they’re due a percentage of a future sale. That could have been a hefty sum had Jander been a Premier League player. Now he is likely to leave for considerably less, and thus they’ll miss out again.
However, BILD report that Nuremberg won’t take the matter lying down. Instead, their ‘intends to fight’ for the €1m in court. Sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou has also confirmed as much, telling the newspaper “we are currently examining legal options.”
More Southampton drama
It’s the latest in what could be extended fall out from the Spy Gate drama. Reports in England have already made it clear several players are considering a class action lawsuit against the Saints.
Their banishment from the playoffs has reportedly cost the Southampton players a promotion bonus of €170,000 per player. That’s before even discussing salaries. They had already been cut by 40% when Southampton were relegated from the Premier League.
It is, quite frankly, a huge mess. And Nuremberg might not be the only club who come looking for compensation in court from the whole affair.
In fact, it would not be surprising if they are one of many to take up such a plan. Southampton fans should probably prepare themselves for plenty more court cases in the coming months.
