Sunderland’s Bertrand Traoré has come out in defence of Dango Ouattara after the Brentford player’s poor form for Burkina Faso.
Burkina24 report Ouattara had a ‘poor performance’ with the national team this month. Traoré gave his supportive take on that, and outlet have relayed his comments.
The 23-year-old forward spent two years at AFC Bournemouth and left them for Brentford in August. On summer deadline day, Traoré left Ajax for the second time to join the Black Cats on a permanent transfer.
Ouattara has operated across the front three at Brentford, managing a goal in eight matches. The 30-year-old has played 89 minutes from two league games for Sunderland.
Burkina Faso manager Brama Traoré called up the duo for September and October fixtures.
Ouattara scored a brace in 6-0 win over Djibouti last month and failed to score or register an assist in last three matches. The Sunderland player captained Burkina Faso in those three games. They drew one and won the other two.
On Sunday, Burkina Faso secured a 3-1 win over Ethiopia in a World Cup qualifier.
Despite the positive results, the Brentford player’s form for his country seems to have been a concern. Bertrand Traoré defends his compatriot as he’s well aware of Ouattara’s qualities.
“We all know Dango’s quality; he’s one of the best in the national team,” he said.
“If you look at his performance as a whole, he fell short of what he can contribute. I think he created a few chances. He had a lot of desire, but there are days like that.”
