Watford striker Vivaldo Semedo finished the 2025/26 season still searching for a proper breakthrough. Interest in the Portugal U21 international is already growing ahead of the summer window.

The 20-year-old made 28 appearances across all competitions this season, although many came from the bench.

He totalled 923 minutes, scoring four goals and adding two assists, while also featuring in the FA Cup and EFL Cup. That lack of regular football could now become an important factor in his next move.

According to journalist Sebastião Sousa-Pinto, Portuguese side Alverca have made contacts to sign the Watford forward. The situation is still described as very preliminary. However, the approach adds another club to the list monitoring the striker’s situation.

The report also states Lyon made an informal approach for Semedo in January, showing the interest is not limited to Portugal.

Watford facing key decision

Vivaldo Semedo remains well regarded because of his physical profile and potential upside. The striker has continued to feature for Portugal’s youth sides. He is still viewed as a player capable of developing into a top-level centre-forward.

At the same time, another loan could help accelerate his progress, especially if regular starts are guaranteed. He already shown he can make some difference if given the chance.

A permanent move could also become part of the discussion if the Hornets believe there is stronger long-term value in inserting sell-on clauses or buy-back protections.

Alverca may appeal because of the possibility of consistent senior football. The club are preparing for life after promotion and appear to be exploring ambitious market opportunities early.

Meanwhile, Lyon’s previous approach is perhaps the clearest indication of Semedo’s reputation outside England. The French side have increasingly targeted young talents with resale potential. Semedo fits that model.

What happens next

For now, there is no indication negotiations are advanced. Still, the timing is interesting.

Clubs are already moving before the transfer window formally accelerates, and Watford will likely need to make a decision soon about how they want to manage Semedo’s next stage of development.

Given his age and international profile, interest from elsewhere in Europe is unlikely to disappear quickly.
