Watford have made a bid to sign defender Wesley Hoedt on loan from Anderlecht until the end of the season.
That’s according to Het Niuewsblad, who say the Hornets want to sign the 28-year-old on loan with an ‘option to buy’.
They explain that Hoedt is currently considered ‘redundant’ at the Belgian club and the solution to that problem could be Watford.
They’re looking to bolster their defence this month as they continue to fight for promotion back to the Premier League and have made a bid to sign the defender on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy him at the end of it.
The newspaper states that discussions between the two clubs are ‘ongoing and progressing well’, although Hoedt was back in training with Anderlecht today.
The ‘main intention’ in these negotiations is for Watford to assume all of Hoedt’s wages for the remainder of the season. Whether the Hornets are willing to do that isn’t made clear.
Either way Anderlecht are keen to move Hoedt on as he has ‘fell out of favour’ at the club after he ‘behaved unprofessionally’ and was relegated to the bench as a result.
Thus there is a deal there to be done between both clubs, with Watford keen and Anderlecht happy to let him go if his wages are covered.
