Watford have the ‘new Bellingham on their hands’ in Yaser Asprilla and there is already widespread interest in him.
That’s according to their sporting director Gianluca Nani, who has heaped praise on the 20-year-old today.
Asprilla has been with Watford since joining them in a €3m deal from Envigado in January 2022 but only moved to Vicarage Road on a permanent basis in June that year.
He’s been slowly developing with the Hornets since and managed 86 appearances for the club to date, with seven goals and ten assists so far.
This season has undoubtedly been something of a breakout one for him, with 44 appearances, six goals and seven assists in the Championship.
The Colombian is very much a rising star for the future, with Watford having developed a knack of sourcing young talent from South America and developing them in house in recent years.
Asprilla is the latest example of that and has been tipped for a big move at some point in future, with time on his hands given he’s only 20-years-old.
Nani is certainly predicting big things for him, even going as far as to liken him to Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham.
“You immediately realise when you see a great player, at 16-17 years old he had already received attention from everyone, when he played for Birmingham,” he said regarding Bellingham.
“Sometimes something slips away, working on many fronts, it happens for many players. A new Bellingham could be Asprilla, in Watford.
“He is an attacking midfielder who plays the two phases, he is not as physical as Bellingham, but he has very quick understanding and an exceptional touch on the ball. For now, I can say that he is followed by many clubs.”
