Watford were busy rejecting various offers from France for their players at the end of the January transfer window.

That’s at least if the information from Score.fr and Homme Du Match is anything to by. The French outlets cover the various bids made for Watford player today.

Score kick things off by explaining that Rennes made an effort for Nampalys Mendy. The French club had a busy January window, but the Watford midfielder was the one they couldn’t get hold of.

He would have been a ‘last big blow’ for the window. Mendy was ready to leave Vicarage Road, but Watford decided to keep of him. In fact, it’s claimed they want to put him at the heart of their project. That’s despite the fact he’s only made 10 appearances in all competitions to date.

The Hornets also feel that his experience would be beneficial to their efforts to get back into the Premier League. Thus, they turned Rennes away, dismissing their interest out of hand, leaving the French club frustrated.

It was a similar story for Nantes, according to Homme Du Match. This time the player in focus was Othmane Maamma.

Their coach Ahmed Kantari pushed the club to move for the Watford winger, so they did. The move eventually, though, collapsed due to ‘insurmountable financial and competitive obstacles.’

Nantes made an offer of €5m plus Herba Guirassy. Watford rejected this proposal, saying it was insufficient. Lille then entered the picture, offering €8m. Watford rejected that one as well.

Then came Roma, who significantly outbid the previous pair. Their offer was approaching €15m via a loan with a mandatory option. That also didn’t please Watford, who demanded an immediate transfer.

Both Mendy and Maamma ended up staying as a result. It seems Watford weren’t keen on selling either as the French and Italians found out.
