Watford have moved quickly to find a new solution for Jorge Cabezas Hurtado. This comes after the striker’s disappointing spell at Millonarios came to an end.
The 22-year-old spent the first half of 2026 on loan with the Colombian club, but struggled to establish himself. He finished the spell with just five appearances and 149 minutes of football. He failed to register a goal or assist during that time.
Last month we covered that Millonarios had informed Watford they would not activate their purchase option. The player’s representatives were already searching for a new destination.
Millonarios exit quickly followed by new opportunity
Now according to journalist Julián Capera, there is already a principle of agreement between Watford and Colombian side Deportes Tolima. This is for another loan deal.
Cabezas Hurtado’s current agreement with Millonarios runs until June 30th. After that, he is expected to switch clubs rather than return to England for the new season.
The latest development suggests Watford have wasted little time finding a new path for the forward.
While the Millonarios spell failed to provide the regular football Cabezas Hurtado needed, there were indications the Colombian club considered keeping him.
Futbolred report that extending the loan was discussed in recent weeks as Millonarios looked at ways to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the campaign. Ultimately, however, those talks did not lead anywhere.
The report also states Millonarios held a purchase option worth €1.75m (£1.5m), but chose not to activate it. Given the striker’s limited role and lack of end product during the loan, that decision is hardly surprising.
Why the move could suit Watford
For Watford, the proposed switch to Deportes Tolima may offer a better platform for the player to rebuild momentum.
Rather than joining a side with only domestic commitments, Cabezas Hurtado would arrive at a club preparing for the Copa Libertadores round of 16.
Tolima are set to face Independiente del Valle and will also compete in the Liga BetPlay title race during the second half of the season.
That should provide more opportunities and a higher-profile environment for a player who urgently needs consistent minutes.
The move is not yet complete, but the speed with which a new destination has emerged suggests Watford had little intention of allowing Cabezas Hurtado’s future to drift after a frustrating few months at Millonarios.
With another loan now close, the Championship club appear focused on finding the game time that has so far proved elusive for the Colombian forward.
