Following claims from the English media, it’s now time for the South American press to report Watford’s interest in River Plate striker Rafael Santos Borré as well.
Caracol Radio journalist Rueda confirms that the Hornets want to sign the 25-year-old, whose contract with the Buenos Aires side expires this summer.
It’s said Watford ‘have an offer’ for Borré with a salary of £9m per season in England, while following the promotion to the Premier League, the Vicarage Road side are said to have a budget of £150m to strengthen the squad for the next season.
However, there’s no information on how the talks have been going, and with the end of the striker’s contract with River Plate, he’s likely to have many offers on the table in the coming months.
The problem with those claims is that a £9m/year salary would mean Borré would be earning about £173k a week at Watford, and judging by the average salary of Premier League players, that sounds like too much.
That’s why we should probably hold on before fully buying into this story.
Since joining River Plate on a move from Atletico Madrid back in 2017, Rafael Borré has 54 goals for the Argentine side.
That makes him their top scorer in what they call the ‘Marcelo Gallardo era’.
Besides Watford, the striker has also been linked with the likes of Grêmio and Lazio.
