Signed by Watford from Udinese in 2020, William Troost-Ekong had a mixed bag of a time at Vicarage Road.
He managed 65 appearances for the Hornets during his time there, and even captained the team a few times this Eason in a stretch between October and November, but ultimately the two sides decided to part ways.
Having spent time in Italy with Udinese, the Watford defender ended up returning to Serie A, this time with Salernitana for the remainder of the season.
A loan deal was struck, which includes an option to buy, but Nigeria International only managed three games for them before getting injured.
Salernitana recently appointed Paulo Sousa as their new manager, and the Portuguese will have to deal without the Watford man for ‘at least two months’.
That’s according to Goal Italy, who relay the statement on the Italian club’s website about the injury, and estimate the time out based on the fact he has a tibial plateau fracture.
A blow for Watford and Salernitana, and we’ll have to wait and see how the defender recovers before talking about the move being made permanent.
