Watford made an attempt to sign Robert Renan from Corinthians, according to reports from Brazil.
That’s revealed today by journalist Jorge Nicola, who claims the Hornets had placed a bid to land the 19-year-old.
It’s said Watford’s offer was delivered to Corinthians by agent Eduardo Bou Daye, with a total amount of €11m, and was apparently done in December.
The Hornets’ intention was to pay an initial price of €6m, with other €4m in case they got promoted to the Premier League, and €1m for a potential resale.
Corinthians, however, turned that down, as they had other plans for Robert Renan.
The player is now actually close to a move to Zenit, as he was involved in a deal where the Brazilian club managed to sign striker Yuri Alberto.
It isn’t clear whether Watford could have signed Robert Renan if they had offered a little more.
There had already been reports in Brazil saying an English club was trying to buy the player, and it seems their name was only revealed once his move to Zenit has now been nearly guaranteed.
