Over the past week or so, Watford have been linked with Barcelona’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

The 19 year old joined the club from Toulouse last summer and he needs games to be able to develop. That’s unlikely at the Catalan club, even before any further signings come in, and a loan looks like a good option.

Sport say Watford have ‘knocked on the door’ to sign the player, but their chances don’t seem very good. Todibo isn’t keen on a move to the Hornets or the Premier League generally.

He doesn’t feel it would be the ‘ideal championship’ for him, because it’s so difficult to be a successful central defender in England’s top flight. In truth, it doesn’t sound like he thinks he’s ready or that Watford would be able to give him the 15-20 minimum games he wants next season.

Sport says that in recent days there’s been concerns about the player’s behaviour away from the pitch, although they also point out that at his age it’s not too unusual.
