No, Watford fans, you haven’t time travelled back to 2018, but the Hornets are still interested in Grégoire Defrel, it seems.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport over the weekend, who claim that the Championship side are once again interested in the striker, who is currently at Sassuolo.
The 32-year-old isn’t exactly the first name on the team sheet these days with his current club, and that’s why the idea of an exit, with Watford reportedly keen, is emerging.
The Hornets, if they are interested, will face some competition, as other Italian sides, such as Cagliari, Empoli and Salernitana, have also come forward and made ‘requests’ about the Frenchman.
Corriere dello Sport muse this could be seen as a ‘long-distance swap’ by the Pozzo family, who could end up selling Adam Masina, currently at Udinese, to Sassuolo.
So far this season, the Watford target has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Sassuolo, assisting one goal but failing to find the back of the net.
Back in 2018, it was reported that Watford had bid €23m for Defrel, at a better time in his career when he was contracted to AS Roma.
