Watford are heading towards a summer where holding onto Imrân Louza may prove just as important as any signing they make.

The 26-year-old has quietly become one of the most influential midfielders in the Championship. That has been building for some time, but this season has taken things up a level.

Louza now sits at the heart of everything Watford do. He controls tempo, breaks up play and still delivers in the final third.

Across all competitions, he has seven goals and nine assists in 37 matches. For a midfielder who spends large parts of games protecting his defence, those numbers stand out. In addition, he has been one of the most effective ball-winners in the division, leading metrics such as possession recoveries.

That mix of control and output explains why Watford are now bracing themselves.

Foot Mercato report that two Premier League clubs have already made initial checks on Louza ahead of the summer window.

The interest is not new. Back in November, we covered that the club was already aware that he wanted to “experience something different”.

And the new report claims that in January, Watford had to deal with late attention, including a bid worth €10m (£8.6m) from a Premier League side, alongside loan approaches from Ligue 1.

The expectation is that the situation will escalate in the next window.

Season pushing him into spotlight

Imrân Louza’s recent performances have only strengthened that growing reputation.

Last weekend, he delivered another reminder in the 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic. He produced a standout assist to set up the equaliser, a pass that quickly drew praise from teammates and opponents alike.

His teammate Nestory Irankunda said: “The pass was incredible, that’s what he does. He’s an exceptional player, capable of creating moments like that out of nothing.”

Watford manager Ed Still also highlighted his influence: “He was brilliant. Credit to him for the way he leads technically and dictates the rhythm of the game. What stands out is how receptive he is to advice.”

Even Charlton boss Nathan Jones was impressed, describing him as a “Premier League-level technician playing in the Championship”.

Those reactions reflect a player who is now dominating at this level rather than simply performing well.

Contract, market and next steps

Imrân Louza remains under contract at Watford until June 2028. That gives the club a strong negotiating position, especially with his current valuation around €14m (£12m).

At the same time, the market around him is growing. Interest is expected not only from the Premier League but also from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. That wider attention could push the price higher as the window develops.

There is also an international angle shaping the situation. Louza has 14 caps for Morocco but missed the last World Cup due to injury. Returning to that stage is a clear objective, and a move to a higher level could help his chances.

From Watford’s perspective, the decision may soon become unavoidable. Keep a key player who is performing at his peak, or accept that this is the moment to maximise his value.

Either way, the calm around Louza’s future is unlikely to last much longer.
