Watford’s pursuit of Sampdoria midfielder Morten Thorsby went a little quiet recently, especially after director Cristiano Giaretta dismissed claims about negotiations.

Now it turns out we see something fresh about this saga, as outlet Il Secolo XIX says the Hornets are still interested in signing the 25-year-old.

The newspaper features a piece talking about all of Sampdoria’s pending moves in the transfer window, including their desire to offer Thorsby a new contract at the club.

But Il Secolo XIX adds that Watford, who already had an offer of €6m plus €1m in bonuses rejected by the Serie A side, are now ‘expected’ to return with a new bid.

The report doesn’t bring any details on how much the Hornets are putting on the table, or Sampdoria’s demands for a potential sale.

Now this new contract offer could be an attempt to convince the player to stay at the club or perhaps rewarding him after the success he’s been having lately. That should depend on how things go in the coming weeks.
