Valencia remain keen on a move for Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue after failing to secure his signing in the summer.

The Spanish side were keen on reuniting the Frenchman with former boss Javi Gracia throughout the summer, with him wanting to add a defensive pivot to his side.

They failed to get a deal with the Championship side over the line, though, having pushed for a loan deal that Watford simply weren’t interested in.

However, Super Deporte report that their financial situation has changed courtesy of Geoffrey Kondogbia’s move to Atlético Madrid and so they have an ‘economic margin’ to make a couple of signings.

That is why the club have been working on potential names, and most of those are players they have already looked at.

The priority is to sign a central defender, but Gracia still wants a defensive midfielder, and Watford’s Capoue remains his ‘favourite’.

He’s found himself out of favour at Vicarage Road in recent weeks, and his signing would be considered a ‘gesture’ from Peter Lim to his manager.

Whether the Hornets would sanction a deal isn’t mentioned but given Capoue isn’t featuring and has been out of four of their last five squads, Valencia seem to think they may be able to get their man.
