Malo Gusto arrived at Chelsea in the summer after the Blues agreed a deal with Lyon for his transfer in January.
Reece James’ injury has allowed the 20-year-old to feature regularly and he’s made six league appearances this season. His form has helped him receive a first call-up from France for this month’s international break.
RMC Sport have interviewed the Chelsea right-back, and during the chat he revealed he shares a good relationship with James and the pair try to help each other.
“On the pitch, it’s war, he knows it very well, we don’t necessarily give each other any favours and it’s the best who will simply play,” he said.
Chelsea appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager in the summer after finishing 12th last season.
The west London club have endured a difficult start to the season before registering two wins in the last two league games. They are currently 11th in the table, trailing fourth placed Liverpool by six points.
The Frenchman has revealed that he wasn’t concerned about Chelsea’s form last season and was also informed by their directors that it would take time before the Premier League side could regain the top spot.
“Before signing for a big club like that, you think and find out about the situation. I wasn’t necessarily surprised, the club’s leaders told me that it was a long-term project that could take time to get started,” Gusto explained.
“Little by little with the team, we are trying to create a real group that will move forward together to put Chelsea back where they need to be and win everything.”
Gusto has further stated that Thiago Silva “inspires” him and also hailed the centre-back’s professionalism.
