Tottenham Hotspur immediately shifted their focus to Atalanta’s Cristian Romero after failing to convince Sevilla star Jules Koundé to join them.
The north London club even made a proposal to the Serie A side, but the offer wasn’t convincing enough for Atalanta.
Romero was part of the Argentina squad that defeated Brazil in the Copa América final last month, and after enjoying the success with his country, the defender is expected to join the club’s training on Monday.
According to Sky Italia, the 23-year-old is expected to hold talks with Gian Piero Gasperini on Monday, where he will ‘reiterate’ his desire to leave the club for Spurs, who have already made an offer worth around €50m.
Romero will communicate his decision to leave Atalanta to Gasperini today. The player ‘wants to go to Tottenham’ and ‘will do everything’ he can to end up in the English capital.
Sky state that Atalanta, for their part, don’t intend to let Romero leave until they have found a replacement for him in the market.
