Carlo Ancelotti has returned to England to get ‘revenge’ according to former Italian footballer Ciccio Graziani.
Ancelotti was confirmed as the new Everton manager on Saturday, signing a four and a half year deal to replace Marco Silva at the club.
His return to England comes after he was sacked by Napoli earlier this month, with a player revolt and poor form in the league ending bringing his time at the club to a premature end.
That spell has done severe damage to the Italian manager’s reputation, with many questioning if he is the right man for the rebuild required at Everton.
The Blues have hired him regardless of that, with his arrival seen as a significant coup given Everton are currently fighting to avoid relegation.
Graziani, though, believes the project on offer at Everton and the chance to prove his doubters wrong is what has lured Ancelotti.
“It is a cure-all to go to Everton, there was bad relief from the exemption,” he told TMW Radio, relayed by CalcioNapoli24.it.
“He would have suffered; he thought he was doing something different. He wanted to go back to England because he enjoyed himself there.
“He wanted to get revenge, to recover in a world that fascinates him and he likes the challenge of Everton and their project.
“Maybe next year he could try to make this team even more competitive.”
