Now at Lazio, having followed Maurizio Sarri there, Elseid Hysaj is finally getting regular football in Serie A.

Sort of half stuck at Napoli following the manager’s departure to Chelsea and then Juventus, the Albania international moved to Rome on a free transfer, where he is the undisputed starter.

In fact, the pair enjoy working with each other so much that they could have done so at Stamford Bridge had Napoli allowed to let him leave when Sarri was in charge.

That’s what Hysaj revealed in a chat with BalkanWeb: “Sarri hasn’t changed. I never talk much with the manager, we had problems with football, we didn’t have a nice relationship, but he’s always made me feel important. He’s a special guy, because when he trusts you, you want to please him. He brought me to Lazio and wanted me at Chelsea. I want to give him three times what he deserves”.

As for why the transfer never took place, the player made it clear that there was ‘interest some time ago’, most likely referring to when the Italian manager was in charge at Chelsea, but he ‘never had the opportunity to go to England’.

Either way, he is ‘satisfied with his choices’ when it comes to his career, having made Italy his ‘second home’ and finding once again a manager who is willing to give him regular minutes in his team.

That’s why he’s ‘very happy’ where he is, and the boat for a move to the Premier League may have now passed.

Who knows, though, as a good season under Sarri could prick a few ears up on these shores.
