Bruno Guimarães continues to strengthen his status at Newcastle United and with the Brazilian national team. Globo Esporte highlighted his role in a report from Japan ahead of Brazil’s friendly against the hosts.
Newcastle United could be aided by Brazil
The midfielder has been an ever-present figure under Carlo Ancelotti. He is the only player to appear in all five matches since the Italian took charge.
Guimarães, who joined Newcastle in 2022, is now one of the key pillars of the Seleção’s new cycle. Speaking at a press conference, he described this as his best moment with the national shirt. “It’s one of my best moments with Brazil. The cycle has been full of ups and downs, but we’ve grown and we’re strong heading into the final stretch,” he said.
“I just want to keep performing well for my club, make the manager happy and stay in the team. Not sure if I’m untouchable, but I want to keep doing my job well.”
The 27-year-old also praised the trust Ancelotti has given him. “The coach has shown a lot of confidence in me and I’m living my best moment with the national team. I’m happy to be back in Japan, where I have great memories,” he added, recalling Brazil’s Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020.
Meanwhile, Guimarães was thoughtful when discussing the 2026 World Cup squad. “The group isn’t closed yet, and that’s normal. The coach wants to test players. A World Cup isn’t just about the starting eleven, it’s about the full squad and those who can make the difference off the bench,” he reflected.
Ancelotti’s faith in the Newcastle man was clear even during a recent travel issue. The Brazilian FA changed its plans to ensure he could play against South Korea.
Bruno Guimarães having a rising role with Brazil may have at one time worried Newcastle United from a transfer perspective. However, it appears to be having the opposite impact, with the midfielder aware he needs a stable club life for the national team.
