Walace Silva: Leicester City in talks

Leicester City are well placed in the race for the Brazilian midfielder Walace Silva, Sport Witness can confirm.

After a very good season with Brazilian club Grêmio, the player is very close to leaving in the next transfer window. Like many Brazilians, he sees a transfer to Europe as a very good opportunity.

The interest was originally reported by the journalist Jorge Nicola in Brazil, and sources have told Sport Witness that the negotiations are really underway.

But the Foxes are not alone in the battle. There’s competition from another Premier League club as well as others from abroad.

The word at Grêmio is  the price to let the player go is at least €10m. But people close to the process believe that the transfer could happen for around €8m or €9m.

Walace is finishing the season with two gold medals. He first won the Olympics with Brazil, having a superb tournament after winning a place in midfield, and was then champion of Copa do Brasil this month.

This is not the first time Leicester City have had targets in the South of Brazil. They’ve already been linked to Walace’s teammate Luan and to the Internacional striker Sasha earlier this year.

Like many Premier League clubs, Leicester have been increasing their scouting in recent years, and that leads to more potential targets.

Walace Silva is 21 years of age, and a very flexible defensive player. The right footer can operate either in a defensive midfield role, in central defence, or as an all-round central midfielder.

Given his success with the Brazil Olympic Team, and that he’s already been capped at full international level, Leicester City, or anyone else, would be confident of being able to put together the required argument to secure a work permit.
