It seems Newcastle United have a golden opportunity to place a bid for Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport today features a piece talking about Napoli’s interest in the defender, as they’re making an effort to get him.
Antonio Conte’s new club are offering €35m, including bonuses. Even though Torino’s demand is €40m plus €5m in add-ons, they’re thinking about it.
That’s where Newcastle come in. The newspaper writes that while the Turin side evaluate Napoli’s bid, they wonder if the Magpies will now show up with their offer.
It’s made clear that the first offer is ‘remarkable’, so Eddie Howe’s side would need to make sure to outbid their competition when making their attempt.
Newcastle have been linked to Buongiorno since May 2023, and the rumours got a little more intense recently, with reports claiming the Magpies have started contacts for the signing.
Now Torino will be waiting for their move, as they know this is a great opportunity to cash in right at the start of the transfer window.
