Following recent reports claiming Graham Potter has turned down the possibility of taking charge at Ajax, some in the Dutch media are actually glad about it.
There’s growing hope that Erik ten Hag will soon be dismissed from Manchester United and could therefore return to the Eredivisie giants in the summer.
Some quotes on this subject are today brought by SoccerNews, who cover what was said on the Kick-Off podcast. There, Valentijn Driessen highlighted Ajax’s interest in having him back.
“The first choice, of course, is Ten Hag. You then have to have the guts to wait for his dismissal. Ten Hag is now shouting everywhere that he is next season’s big man.”
Journalist Mike Verweij also highlighted that possibility.
“I think Ten Hag is still Ajax’s dream candidate,. Regardless of what will happen to Alex Kroes.”
Manchester United currently stand 6th in the Premier League, and at this stage, there’s very little hope they can manage to get a place in the Champions League next season. The only chance for something actually positive is now the FA Cup, where they’ll soon be playing in the semifinals.
The disappointing season surely puts Ten Hag’s job at risk, especially with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival and the need for some fresh air. At least it seems the coach should get a new opportunity if he is dispatched from Old Trafford.
