Jadon Sancho’s wages could prove the stumbling block to a permanent move back to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester United this summer.
That’s according to Ruhr Nachrichten, relayed by Ruhr 24, who say the chances of Sancho making a permanent move to Germany are ‘dwindlingly slim’.
They explain that while reports have made it clear that Manchester United are willing to cut their losses on Sancho and sanction a relatively low-cost deal to what they paid for him, his ‘mega salary’ is a problem.
He currently earns around €22m per year at Old Trafford, a sum that Dortmund simply cannot match or get anywhere near.
In comparison their current top earners are Gregor Kobel and Niklas Sule, who earn €10m and €11m a year respectively.
Even if Sancho were to forego large parts of his salary, he would still be the top earner by a wide margin and that, coupled with Manchester United wanting some sort of fee, makes a permanent signing unlikely. The best hope at this moment in time is for another loan to be sanctioned.
Indeed, that is seen as the ‘remaining hope’ for the Bundesliga side, who appear to be slowly moving towards the idea that a permanent return won’t be happening in the summer even if all the parties want it.
