Michael Obafemi is set for an early return to Burnley in the January transfer window from a failed loan spell at VfL Bochum.

That’s according to Tief Im Westen. They report that the striker plays ‘virtually no role’ at the German club and is now set to be sent back to Turf Moor.

The 25-year-old joined Bochum on loan in the summer transfer window. It’s the latest tin a growing list of loan deals for him since joining Burnley in 2023. He’s also had spells with Millwall and Plymouth.

This temporary exit, though, has not worked out. To date he’s made just two appearances in total for Bochum, adding up to 25 minutes. Since a 15-minute appearance against Paderborn in September he’s been out of the squad of sat on the bench. In fact, he’s done the latter for five straight games.

Now it seems Bochum are thinking about sending him back to Burnley. They say despite being a regular in the matchday squads, the striker plays ‘virtually no role’ in Bochum’s plans. That’s despite a ‘vacancy’ in their attack at this moment in time.

It seems they’re not convinced and now considering ending their deal with Burnley early as a result.
