Leeds United will have to move quickly if they wish to explore a deal for Nuno Espirito Santo, with him being Peter Lim’s favourite for the Valencia job.
That’s according to Alex Silvestre, who says Leeds could face competition for the Portuguese manager.
The Whites are currently on the hunt for Jesse Marsch’s replacement but have been frustrated early on in their search, with moves for Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot blocked by their current clubs.
That has seen other names brought into the mix, including Nuno Espirito Santo, who has also seen the odds shortening on him to the point where he’s currently second favourite in the bookies list of favourites.
Leeds, though, would face competition with Valencia, though, who are also looking for a new manager and stepping up their search.
Silvestre reports that there is a meeting planned with Peter Lim to determine the situation and pick a favourite, although the Valencia owner’s preference is Nuno at this point.
Marca back this up, stating that Valencia are looking for an ‘immediate replacement’ for interim boss Voro, and technical director Miguel Ángel Corona plans to travel to Singapore in the next few hours to discuss the situation.
The list of names they are looking at is growing but Lim’s initial idea was to hold out until the end of the season and sign Nuno. However, the team’s recent poor performances have changed that and he may need to pay Nuno’s clause or look elsewhere.
If it was the former then that could put him in direct competition with Leeds, who are also facing frustration in their attempts to find a new manager and have subsequently been linked to Nuno.
At the minute neither side have made direct attempts to get the former Wolves man but his name has risen quickly in the odds, particularly when it comes to Leeds, and it seems a struggle could be on the cards if Orta can’t get his preferred targets.
