Leeds United were interested in signing Pablo Fornals either from West Ham United or just before he moved there, according to claims from Spain.

The story comes from Estadio Deportivo, who describe the midfielder’s current situation with the Hammers.

Fornals’ contract with West Ham theoretically expires at the end of the season, but English reports have been saying the London side have triggered a clause to extend it for another year.

That’s seen as bad news for some Spanish clubs, such as Sevilla and Real Betis, who have been interested in signing him.

Regarding the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán side, it’s claimed that Victor Orta had been interested in Fornals since his time at Leeds United, and would now like to bring him to Spain.

Now since West Ham could be extending his contract, the La Liga side are set to struggle a little bit to make such an operation possible.

Whether the interest in Fornals at Leeds United went beyond Orta isn’t clear, but the midfielder is likely out of their reach now.
