Now 35 and with his career coming to an end, Alou Diarra has allowed himself the opportunity to reflect on the past 17 years of his life during an interview with RMC in France.
Playing for, or at least contracted to, 13 different clubs throughout his career, the veteran midfielder, left England and Charlton over the summer to sign for Nancy in France.
With so many different notches under his belt, it’s easy to forget Diarra first arrived in England in 2002, when he signed for Liverpool on a free from Bayern Munich.
Never actually playing a game for the Reds during his time there, the midfielder went on three different loans, all to French clubs, where he made a name for himself, eventually signing for Lens.
Speaking to the French radio station, the player was asked if there were any clubs he regretted going to.
He said: “My first experience in England, with Liverpool, it was far too early and I didn’t have enough experience to go abroad.”
The player eventually returned to England, seven years after leaving, when he signed for West Ham after a season at Marseille.
Since signing for Nancy in the summer, the player has made two appearances and scored one goal, finding the back of the net against Paris Saint-Germain in a 2-1 defeat.
