Monchi is being lined up for an immediate return to Sevilla after leaving Aston Villa, once a takeover has been completed at the club.
That’s according to Vamos Sevilla, relaying information from journalist Manolo Aguilar, who says Monchi has a third spell at Sevilla in his eyeline.
The Spanish director of football made a surprise departure from Aston Villa this week after just over two years in charge at Villa Park. He is expected to be replaced by Roberto Olabe, although his departure and Olabe’s appointment have not yet been announced.
Quickly after his exit from Aston Villa was announced, the initial insinuation was that he could be about to retire.
This story quickly changed and it was suggested he could put his full focus on the newly formed San Fernando 1940. They are his hometown club who he has rescued this year from previous owners who were happy to see them disappear.
Then reports about a potential return to Sevilla emerged, suggesting Monchi would be placed as director of football once again under a new group looking to take charge at the Spanish club.
Now Aguilar backs up that report, insisting that claims Monchi could be about to retire are “very mistaken”.
“Monchi’s number one idea is to return to Sevilla FC,” he is quoted as saying about the former Aston Villa man. In fact, the idea is that he would return ‘five minutes’ after Antonio Lappí and Fede Quintero take control of the Seville club and take control of the sporting side of matters.
All attention, then, will be given to that takeover, which currently has a way to go before being completed and giving him his third spell at the club.
