Yet to make an appearance for West Ham since signing for them back in the summer of 2021, Pierre Ekwah is heading to the Championship with Sunderland AFC.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who explain the 21-year-old is ‘going to sign’ for the Black Cats on a permanent transfer.
The West Ham player, who arrived in England at a young age when he signed for Chelsea, has played a number of times for France’s U20s, and they’ve clearly liked what they’ve seen of him in the Premier League 2.
Capable of playing in front of the defence or even as a centre-back, the versatile player was reportedly ‘convinced by the project’ on offer at Sunderland, which is why he is leaving West Ham, likely for first-team football.
There’s no mention of how much West Ham would be receiving for this transfer, but considering he doesn’t appear to be in David Moyes’ plans and his contract expires in 2024, they probably aren’t asking for all that much.
As for Sunderland, they are getting a very useful reinforcement as they continue their playoff push in the Championship, where they currently sit 9th after 28 games, just three points off third placed Watford.
