Over the past month or so, Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón has been linked to several clubs. Atalanta United are the latest club to join the race to sign the winger in the winter market.

Last week, we covered claims from South America which stated Newcastle have rejected Atlético Mineiro’s €7.5m bid. It was also said the MLS side are making advances to secure a deal, after the 30-year-old gave his approval.

Journalist César Luis Merlo took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide the latest on the Newcastle player’s situation.

He claims the American club have ‘reached a verbal agreement’ with Eddie Howe’s side to buy Almirón for $12m [€11.6m] in this window.

Merlo further adds the two clubs are negotiating the last details of the operation, without specifying those details.

Almirón, for his part, is ‘ready to travel’ to complete a move to Atlanta United. It seems like he’s waiting for a green light, and it can arrive once the two clubs sort out the details.

The Paraguay international joined Newcastle from Atalanta United in January 2019 and is set to return to his former club.

He played 14 games for Newcastle this season, failing to score or register an assist.
