Thiago Alcântara had many reasons to be happy with Liverpool’s win last night.
Following the recovery from a hamstring injury, the midfielder finally had the chance to be back in the starting team, and with a great performance, he helped the Reds to beat Ajax 2-1 and bounce back in Group A of the Champions League.
After the match, Thiago had a word with the Brazilian media, and speaking to TNT Sports, he talked about how important that match was for him and his team.
“We came from a not very good, unwanted time. But we always believe in this team. The basis of this team is work, so we keep working, we keep improving things that weren’t right,” Thiago told TNT Sports.
“And little by little we grow. Every day that passed, we grew. We had the opportunity to not play on the weekend and prepare even more for this game. And being the only game of the three that we could have this week, we made the most of it. I believe we are worthy of this victory and we created a lot of chances and controlled the game as well.”
Asked about the specific issues sorted by Liverpool since the defeat to Napoli last week, the midfielder didn’t really want to comment on how Jurgen Klopp and the team managed to fix it.
“No, I think it’s our thing, something that happens practically inside the locker room, that is talked about, that gets better inside the locker room. But the main thing as a summary is that we are us again.”
Signed from Bayern Munich on a €22m deal in 2020, Thiago now has 73 appearances for Liverpool, and when quizzed about what the Anfield side now means to him, he claimed to be fully adapted to the club.
“It’s my team. It’s not just the players, it’s the fans. My family is here, they are already ultra Liverpool fans. So, after all, we end up becoming a family and we try to help each other.”
Currently in 7th in the Premier League, the Reds are now set for a long rest, as following the postponement of the match against Chelsea, they only face Brighton on the 1st of October.
