Manchester United are firmly in the middle of an “unprecedented market” battle for Hertha BSC youngster Kennet Eichhorn.

That’s according to Sky Germany, who report that the 16-year-old has Europe’s elite clubs lining up to get him.

They explain that after establishing himself as a key player for Hertha, Eichhorn has plenty of admirers. Clubs in Germany and outside are more than aware of the 16-year-old.

The defensive midfielder has a contract until 2029 but can leave next summer thanks to a release clause. The amount varies but the upper limit is believed to be around €10-12m.

There are various factors to change that price though. It’s dependent on Champions League participation, what league Hertha are in, which country he’d be moving to and the competition they’re in.

Regardless, all of Europe’s top clubs are ‘in the running’ for the ‘prodigy’. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt want him. Bayern, Dortmund and Leipzig have already had officials in the stands watching him.

They’re all determined to get him next summer. That’s because Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG have also ‘expressed interest’. “It’s an unprecedented market,” an insider is quoted as saying.

The German U17’s future is ‘completely open’ at this point. Staying in Berlin beyond the summer is a realistic possibility. Promotion to the Bundesliga would help Hertha’s chances on that front.

He and his entourage are relaxed for now, but they know the big clubs, including Manchester United, are circling already.
