On August 30th, Burnley’s Hjalmar Ekdal made his first appearance of this season in his side’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
The centre-back was forced off the pitch on a stretcher after suffering a knee injury, and Vincent Kompany admitted the 24-year-old’s setback is very serious.
Fotbollskanalen explain that the Sweden international has joined the national team camp for the ongoing international break. They further state the Burnley player is set to be out of action for ‘several months’.
His brother, Albin, has long had a dream to play alongside the Clarets defender for the national team.
“I don’t know exactly what his rehab looks like, but a not-so-wild guess is that he can’t be with [Sweden for] the upcoming gatherings,” he said.
Albin, 34, claims he will have to wait until March 2024 to possibly play with the Burnley player for Sweden.
“He pulled his knee a little. Unfortunately, it looks like until next year [to play together] anyway,” Albin explained.
“Unlucky for him to get this injury. And I’m not getting any younger. So, I’m going to talk to Janne [Andersson, the national team manager] so that he solves at least one match.”
In January, Burnley signed Hjalmar from Djurgårdens IF and offered him a four-and-a-half-year deal, and he’s made 10 appearances since then.
