Despite being 32 years of age, Pascal Groß is a huge part of the youthful team Roberto De Zerbi has put in place at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The midfielder has 10 assists and four goals in 26 Premier League appearances this season, and this is why he is nowadays included in the Germany squad on a regular basis.
Currently with his national team, the Brighton star sat down with WAZ to discuss various topics, including that of the Seagulls as a club and the work his manager is doing there.
One of the main problems, at least in his eyes, is the project the club have put in place, and Groß almost sounds like he would like that to change going forward so the team can be even more competitive.
Asked about the fact the squad is ‘data-based’ and what characterises the club, the midfielder was quite candid in his reply.
He said: “You’ve summarised that well. The club is buying young players who then – unfortunately – have to be sold. That’s Brighton, that’s the philosophy. In the Premier League, people often buy, buy, buy. A lot of money is paid. Of course, we also pay transfer fees, but we are atypical by Premier League standards.”
The midfielder has been at Brighton since he was bought in 2017 from FC Ingolstadt in Germany, and has seen many talents come and go in his time there.
Some of the most notable have been Alexis Mac Allister, now at Liverpool, and Moises Caicedo, for whom Chelsea paid a reported €116m.
