When Leeds United signed Diego Llorente in a €20m move from Real Sociedad last summer, it clearly seemed like he’d soon be an important part of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

However, with only one appearance for the club so far, the defender’s struggles at Elland Road are notable, and it’s starting to get the attention from the Spanish press.

Outlet Fichajes bring a story in which they say it was an error both from Real Sociedad and from Diego Llorente to accept the move to Leeds United.

They say the Spanish side has been missing the 27-year-old in their defence, and since he doesn’t play at Leeds, it’s just a matter of who will regret the transfer more at the end of the season.

He was used by Marcelo Bielsa as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the 5th of December, and that’s the only chance he had. Injuries have been one reason, but with Llorente now fit he’s still not featuring.

Llorente’s contract with Leeds United runs until 2024. However, if things continue like this, it won’t be surprising to see him linked with a move back to Spain soon.

Fichajes say the transfer has turned out to be an ‘unexpected nightmare’.
