Crystal Palace allowed Hindolo Mustapha to join 1. FC Nürnberg on a season-long loan deal in August.

The attacking midfielder ended up joining the second division German club to take the next step in his career. Instead, the move has turned out to be disastrous as he hasn’t featured in the league.

The Crystal Palace owned player was limited 101 minutes from two matches for Nürnberg U23s. On October 16th, Bild labelled this transfer as a ‘misunderstanding’.

Last month, the same outlet reported the 2.Bundesliga side are likely to terminate the 19-year-old’s loan move in the winter market. On Monday, Nürnberg announced that they have taken this step.

The German club confirmed that they reached an agreement with the Eagles to terminate his loan stay. He was initially expected to stay until the end of the season. Instead, the Sierra Leone international will now return to Crystal Palace on January 1st.

Nürnberg sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou admits the loan move hasn’t worked out well for all parties.

“Hindolo undoubtedly has quality, but things didn’t work out at 1. FC Nürnberg as all parties had hoped. It was also important for the player’s sake to establish clarity early on and find a mutually agreeable solution,” he said.

“We wish Hindolo all the best for his future, both professionally and personally.”

Crystal Palace will have to make a decision on whether to include him in Oliver Glasner’s plans or send him on loan elsewhere next month.
