It is inevitable that Dean Huijsen will leave Bournemouth this summer, and someone will pay €60m to make that happen.

That’s according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, via FC Update, who believes the Netherlands are kicking themselves at missing out on the natural successor to Virgil van Dijk.

Huijsen has been earning rave reviews for his performances this season after joining Bournemouth in a bargain €12m deal from Juventus in the summer.

He’s established himself as a key player in Bournemouth’s defence this season and proven to be extremely good value for money, with several of the biggest sides in Europe, including Real Madrid, all eyeing up a transfer in the summer.

They want to take advantage of a £50m release clause in the defender’s contract, which is set to activate this summer after the season comes to an end.

In the meantime, Huijsen continues to impress and made his international debut for Spain in this international break to add to his growing status.

That itself was a moment of interest as he could have also played for the Netherlands but elected to go with the reigning European champions. That is something Driessen believes will be causing plenty of heartache for the Netherlands.

“This Huijsen could easily have become Van Dijk’s successor at the Dutch national team after the 2026 World Cup,” he said.

“Unfortunately, no one at the KNVB has been able to persuade Huijsen, even though he played in representative youth teams for the Netherlands. In the summer, €60m will undoubtedly be paid for Huijsen.”
