West Brom signed Callum Styles from Barnsley in August 2024. He initially found it difficult to feature regularly at The Hawthorns.
The left-back had to wait for over two months before starting to enjoy regular minutes at West Brom. He finished his debut season with 35 appearances.
The Hungary international’s slow start at West Brom cost him his place in the national team. He returned to the squad in June and started in four matches in the last two international breaks.
Hungary manager Marco Rossi has included him in the squad for the World Cup qualifier against Armenia. Nemzeti Sport have spoken to the 25-year-old, and the majority of the interview is related to the national team.
Styles was asked about Rossi’s decision to overlook him during his first season with the Baggies. He said the manager’s decision only motivated him to do well for West Brom.
“After the Euros, I changed clubs. [I] worked on my integration at West Brom. At first, I didn’t play enough to be selected,” he said.
“The manager’s decision was understandable. It encouraged me to work hard and fight for my place in the team.”
“After I managed to fight my way into the starting lineup, it was only a matter of time before I would receive an invitation, but in March I couldn’t be there for the Nations League play-offs due to a minor injury.”
West Brom player shares Premier League dream
Last season, West Brom finished ninth in the table. They are currently 14th after 15 matches, four points behind sixth placed Millwall. The fullback talked about his dream of making it to the Premier League.
“We need to start winning games. Despite the outstanding individual performances, we are currently in the middle of the table,” Styles explained.
“As for me, I feel in good shape. I help the team, but the goals and assists are missing.
“I’m 25, one of my dreams is to play in the Premier League. For this our good play has to be combined with results.
“The strongest league in the world is the English first division, the constant topic in the locker room is which team played what. I hope that one day we will reach this level too.”
