Aston Villa sacked Steven Gerrard on October 20th and four days later, they appointed Unai Emery as his successor.

The Villans triggered the Spaniard’s €6m release clause in his Villarreal contract in bringing him to Villa Park.

Emery will take over at Aston Villa on November 1st, after obtaining a work permit.

According to Marca, the former Arsenal manager ‘takes’ Pako Ayestarán as his assistant at the Premier League side.

The 59-year-old has been without a job since leaving Portuguese side CD Tondela back in March.

Ayestarán has the experience of coaching in England, when he worked as Rafael Benítez’s assistant at Liverpool between 2004 and 2007, winning the Champions League with the Reds.

The duo have ‘already coincided’ when Emery was at Valencia, as the ex-Liverpool assistant, who has had various spells as a first team manager in the past, is now set to become Emery’s No.2 at Villa.

If Marca’s report is to be true, Ayestarán will therefore be expected to be in dugout alongside Emery, when Aston Villa face Manchester United on November 7th.
