Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has been pictured in Spain watching Real Unión in person, after they signed a partnership agreement with the Villans earlier this month.
That’s according to El Diario Vasco, who say Emery, who is an owner of the Basque club alongside his brother, was recently present to watch the game against Osasuna Promesas.
The newspaper explains that the Aston Villa coach attended the game alongside his brother Igor Emery, who is president at the club, the Sports delegate of the City Council Borja Olazabal and the woman who is set to be appointed as the new mayor of Irun, Cristina Laborda.
They say that Emery was seemingly in good spirits as he stopped to take photos with fans before, during and after the game which he watched from the Stadium Gal box.
The visit appears to have been a social one for the Aston Villa boss, although the recent agreement between Unión and Villa does mean that they will ‘collaborate’ in areas of performance, scouting and recruitment, data analysis and squad management.
Whether that means we’ll see some players moving between the two sides remains to be seen.
Given the very big gap between Aston Villa and Unión at this point it’s more likely it’ll be Villa youngsters being sent to Spain rather than anyone rocking up at Villa Park, but that’s just us speculating.
Either way Emery appears to be doing his homework and taking time out of his very busy schedule at Villa Park to ensure his other club isn’t being neglected.
