Aston Villa weren’t able to sign Juan Foyth in the winter market despite Unai Emery going public with his side’s interest in the Villarreal player.

Three days ago, the defender told AS that he was flattered Aston Villa held talks with the La Liga side for him. Foyth also insisted he wants to continue at Villarreal for many years, but the decision is down to the club.

Aston Villa continue to have the Argentina international on their transfer agenda ahead of the summer window.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who state Emery was in attendance at the Estadio de la Cerámica to watch the right-back live in action against Real Madrid. Foyth impressed the Villans coach as he scored in the Yellow Submarine’s 2-1 defeat at the weekend.

Despite the January disappointment, the report states Emery ‘hasn’t given up’ on signing the South American for Aston Villa. The Spaniard believes Foyth, who can also operate as a centre-back, ‘fits perfectly’ into his system.

Villarreal paid €15m to buy him from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021, a year after having signed him on loan.

Estadio state they will ask at least for the same figure to sanction the player’s sale in the next window. The price quoted would be affordable for the Birmingham club.
