Nottingham Forest‘s Ibrahim Sangaré committed his long-term future to the Premier League side by signing a new contract on Tuesday.
The Ivory Coast international arrived at the City Ground from PSV Eindhoven in a £30m [€35m] deal in 2023.
Last season, he enjoyed regular minutes and made 43 appearances and Nottingham Forest have rewarded him with a new contract until 2029.
The renewal signals the midfielder will continue to have an important role under Oliver Glasner.
Excitement over Nottingham Forest renewal
Former Ivory Coast international Romaric N’Dri, commonly known as Romaric, is happy that the 28-year-old signed an extension.
Romaric, who represented Sevilla and Espanyol during his playing career, spoke to Africa Foot to share his views on Ibrahim Sangaré’s renewal.
“This proves that Ibrahim has established himself as a leader,” he said.
The midfielder had a mixed first two years at Nottingham Forest and only had a prominent role last season.
His compatriot says the contract extension is a proof that the former PSV man’s role at the club has changed.
“Extending a contract in the Premier League, especially in a position as demanding as midfield, is never a given,” Romaric explained.
“This is the ultimate proof that Ibrahim Sangaré has established himself as a true leader within the club. His beginnings weren’t easy, but his strength, tactical discipline, and work rate eventually won everyone over.”
Sangaré made right decision
In the winter market, Galatasaray showed interest in Ibrahim Sangaré, but a move never took shape.
Earlier this year, Sport Witness covered claims from Turkey of Beşiktaş’ efforts to sign him this summer.
The Ivorian didn’t entertain any clubs in favour of staying at Nottingham Forest. Romaric explains why this will also benefit the national team.
“The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. By choosing to stay at Nottingham Forest, Ibrahim secures crucial stability at the highest level,” he added.
“For the Elephants, this is excellent news: we need a fulfilled, settled, and confident Sangaré to guide our midfield and pass on his experience to the younger players.”
