Two days ago, Sportitalia journalist Gianluigi Longari reported that Newcastle United are ‘trying’ to sign Sassuolo’s Rogério in the winter market.

He also explained any potential transfer in the last few days of the January window remains complicated.

SassuoloNews.net have an update on the Tyneside club’s chances of landing the 24-year-old this month.

Despite Newcastle’s possible attempt to sign the Brazilian, their ‘negotiations never took off’ because the Serie A side are not left with sufficient time to bring in a replacement for the player, if they sell him to the Magpies.

Eddie Howe’s side shifted their focus to Bayer Leverkusen’s Mitchel Bakker, and the ‘talks are underway’ between the two clubs. Newcastle can sign him, as long as the Bundesliga side find a replacement. ‘Same problem as Sassuolo’.

The English club’s interest in Rogério is also discussed by Gianluca Di Marzio. It’s claimed Newcastle follow the Brazilian, but, at the moment, ‘there are no concrete negotiations’ between the two clubs.

That’s because Howe’s side are ‘waiting to understand how things will evolve, given that Bakker’s transfer to England has been skipped’.
