Newcastle United are in the market for a new left-back and Sassuolo’s Rogério has emerged as one of the targets.

Corriere dello Sport reported in August the Magpies are ‘ready to be serious’ about signing the 22-year-old.

Calciomercato.it now brings the latest development and they state the Brazilian is close to joining the Tyneside club.

It’s claimed the defender’s future is increasingly pointing towards the Premier League as his ‘sale’ to Newcastle is ‘one step away’.

According to the report, the Italian club and Steve Bruce’s side would have ‘found an agreement’ for the South American’s transfer and Sassuolo will earn €14m from their player’s move to St James’ Park.

Calciomercato.it’s report has also been backed up Sky Italia, and even they are reporting the English club will pay €14m to acquire Rogério’s services.

Matt Ritchie is the only recognised left-back at the club after Jetro Willems and Danny Rose returned to Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, following their loan spells at Newcastle.

Rogério’s addition on a permanent transfer will strengthen Newcastle’s left side of the defence for the 2020/21 season.
