Barcelona has two local sport newspapers which cover absolutely everything happening at the Catalan club, every single day.
Both can be quite excitable, but Mundo Deportivo is usually much calmer than Sport, with the latter having a habit of claiming transfers are done way before they actually are, and some of those deals never happen at all.
Today the pair have very contrasting claims on Leeds United’s Raphinha.
Mundo Deportivo say his signing is slipping away, due to Ousmane Dembele being on the verge of signing a new deal at the Camp Nou. They believe Chelsea are now a likelier option for the Leeds United player, despite him still holding out hope a move to Barcelona can be negotiated.
They don’t say the transfer is dead, just that it’s looking unlikely at this stage.
Over at Sport they have Raphinha splashed across their Monday front page. Inside it’s stated the Brazilian is ‘euphoric’, because his move from Leeds to Barcelona is about to happen.
He is ‘elated’ that his ‘insistence’ has paid off, and that in ‘the next few hours’ he can become a Barcelona player.
Sport say Raphinha ‘savours the taste of victory’ because he knows the move is only a ‘matter of hours’ away.
The transfer fee is put at €55m plus bonuses, and there’s confidence the move will happen, with it even stated there could be an announcement today.
One of the newspapers is clearly very wrong, and time will show which one.
