Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali remains the long-term target for Juventus, who are continuing to court him from afar.

That’s according to journalist Nicolo Ceccarini on Tuttomercatoweb. He reports on the Italian club’s efforts for the Newcastle star today.

He explains that while Juventus are looking at short-term options to bolster their midfield in January, such as West Ham’s Guido Rodriguez, Tonali ‘remains the favourite’.

His situation is completely different to the Mexican’s, who is the affordable option at this moment in time. While it would take around €10m to sign him, Newcastle would require a ‘truly significant investment’ to let Tonali go.

This has not necessarily dissuaded Juventus. The Bianconeri’s management have instead starter a ‘courtship’ of the player, which is ongoing. They’re seemingly making it clear that he is their ‘primary target’ for next season.

The plan, at this moment in time, appears to be to launch a full-scale effort og et him in the summer transfer window. Until that point, they will continue to make overtures behind the scenes.

How much money they’d have to spend to convince Newcastle to sell, remains to be seen. But there is an acceptance that it will be a significant sum.
